Learn to be your own marine weather forecaster.

The Intro to Marine Weather course is for all boating enthusiasts who are looking to take their understanding of marine weather and weather predictions to the next level. Learn to observe and forecast weather conditions using traditional maritime skills and modern technology. You’ll gain important knowledge of weather information for planning and adapting navigation during short duration and extended voyages.

Our Marine Weather course will prepare you to anticipate weather conditions whether you are the skipper, navigator or crew.  Included in your tuition is:

  • 16+ Hours of classroom instruction
  • With an American Sailing Association certification (optional) you’ll receive their official log book, certification documents, monthly publication and more.

  • Global Winds and Currents
  • Strong Wind Systems
  • Clouds, Fog, and Sea State
  • Wind and Terrain

  • Sources of Weather Data
  • On-board Forecasting Techniques

Group classes typically take place over four days – two consecutive weekends. (A Saturday and Sunday, then the following Saturday and Sunday).

If you are interested in marine weather and are assessing whether to take the full ASA 119 Marine Weather Endorsement course, you also have the option of signing up for one of our Local Marine Weather Intro Classes.  This shorter non-endorsement info session covers the basics of weather systems using local prevailing conditions to understand weather patterns. For instance, why is there more wind in the afternoon? You’ll find out during this session.
