Private Class Format
- Beginner’s Course (ASA 101)
- Our private ASA 101 course is designed so that everything you learn from day one will be true for every boat you ever sail. Our aim is to help you achieve your goals. We are your mentors and want you to enjoy sailing safely. Each course normally consists of four to five lessons, approximately 4 hours each. You set the schedule!
- More Advanced Courses (ASA 103 and beyond)
- We utilize our fleet of boats from 27′ – 41′ or teach you on your own boat. These lessons are organized to reinforce your skills and comfortably take you to the next level. We will be able to witness your individual sailing skills and practice what you want to learn. Sometimes the sea can be intimidating, making good decisions and feeling safe in a variety of conditions is our goal and key to your future sailing fun.
- Bring Your Own Boat
- If you own your own boat, but you need some help mastering your vessel, we have you covered. See below for deatails and pricing.

Our combination packages are truly unique to Bluewater Sailing. These Combos have been thoughtfully designed to encourage you to practice your sailing skills.
Every time you sail, you will learn something new. We have two different Combo packages, one for after you complete Basic Keelboat (ASA 101) and one for after you complete Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103).
Combo A picks up right where BK leaves off and adds free sailing time to the curriculum. This works to expand your knowledge and skills to sail a wider variety of boats and sailing conditions. The FAST class is a group class with an instructor (5 hours) that allows you time to concentrate on your skills, ask questions and introduces a few new concepts. We want you to take your second free charter after attending the FAST class. In the Basic Coastal Cruising class, we will use boats from 27 to 33 feet with diesel engines.
Combo B gives you many opportunities to add time on the water to your training program. The Coastal Navigation class (ASA 105) introduces you to the voyage planning process and will enhance your experience as you plan your voyage to Catalina Island in the Bareboat Cruising class (ASA 104). The Docking class (ASA 118) upgrades your day sailing privileges to boats 34 feet, and gives you additional practice time after the BCC class. The Bareboat Cruising class prepares you to rent a boat anywhere in the world for multi-day journeys. The advanced seminars are on-the-water courses that give you more time with an instructor on large boats and are either open agenda or focus on specific topics.
Prices do not include 10% local county surcharge. We only require the 50% deposit to enroll you in the combo, with the balance due when you sign up for your next ASA class. Remember, you don’t have to choose dates for the courses when you sign up for the combo.
Feel free to contact us with any questions you might have regarding our Combination packages.
Bring Your Own Boat
For those of you who have made the leap to boat ownership, congratulations! We understand that there may be a lot to learn about operating your vessel. If you’re new to sailing, or you’ve been doing it for a while, having a professional mariner teach you on your own boat will enhance your enjoyment of your investment. Of course, we do have to make sure that the vessel is safe and adheres to the US Coast Guard’s rules. So, the best thing to do is to call us to discuss goals, pricing and to make an inspection of the vessel. We currently serve Marina Del Rey and Redondo Beach for this service.
