ASA 101 - Basic Keelboat Sailing

Learn the Fundamentals of Sailing!

The ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing course is a great introduction for beginners. Learn everything you need to know to safely sail a fast, responsive boat. We’ll provide extensive on the water practice with a special emphasis on how to sail confidently and comfortably with a less experienced friend or family member.

Our classes are small, only 3-4 students per boat, and taught by patient, experienced instructors.  Everything you learn in this class will hold true for any boat you ever sail. We test every student to the highest level of the American Sailing Association standards. Plus once you graduate, you get the added bonus of sailing privileges on any one of our fleet of 22′ Catalina sailboats!

Group classes typically take place over four days – two consecutive weekends. (A Saturday and Sunday, then the following Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm). Over holidays, sometimes we offer special, three-day holiday courses (usually 9:00 am – 4:00 pm).

Private courses are available at every level, 7 days a week. Most people choose private lessons because of the flexibility. You select your dates, times and pace. Private lessons are great for students who have limited time, have schedules that change frequently, or simply want to learn at their own pace. Some people are quick learners, others prefer a slower pace and more repetition. If you need to change or cancel a lesson, we only require 24-hour notice. Contact us for more details.

The objective of our combination package is to give you more time out on the water between classes. We have developed combination packages that offer savings, but not at the expense of your sailing education. After you take the 101 class, our first combination package will be available to you, it includes more free charters, an ASA 111 Class, the ASA 103 class, as well as certifications and a textbook. Combo packages are only available post 101 because we believe it’s best that our students get to know us and our teaching philosophy prior to proceeding with multiple ASA course levels in one package.
