Day 1 – Neiafu Harbor, Vava’u
This amazing adventure begins at Neiafu Harbor on the island of Vava’u, just a short cab ride from Lupepau’u airport.  Checkin is 4:00 PM.  Dinner is ashore this evening on the waterfront at the Mango Restaurant with beautiful views of the sunset.

Day 2 – Kapa Island
Port Maurelle is an easy sail from Neiafu and a great first day voyage to get your sea legs.  Kapa Island has lush jungle trails for amazing island hikes.  Swallows Cave is a must see whether by dinghy or snorkeling.  Enjoy sunset happy hour and dinner aboard on the aft deck.

Day 3 – Whale Swim / Snorkeling
Not to be missed is one of the most thrilling experiences Vava’u has to offer – swimming with Humpback whales.  The whales migrate through Tonga this time of year.  Local tour operators will transport you by boat to where the whales are that day and guide you in an amazing once in a lifetime experience with these amazing marine mammals.  Bring your cameras!

Day 4 – Snorkeling and Scuba Excursions
If you’re a diver then you won’t want to miss this experience.  The neon colors of these untouched South Seas reefs is a photographer’s dream.  Warm water and shallow reefs are perfect for snorkeling as well.  Divers can also enjoy wall dives, tunnels, caves and more.

Day 5 – Mounu Island
After a passage south, you’ll anchor at the Mounu Island Resort, an eco-resort on the six acre southern-most inhabited island of the Vava’u Archipelago.  A coral atoll fringed with a white sand beach, this private island is a true paradise on earth.  Enjoy kite surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, or just hang out for a drink at the bar.  Dinner will be ashore at the resort this evening where you can enjoy sumptuous local organic cuisine.

Day 6 – Hunga Island
Few places in the world can boast of having an actual Blue Lagoon, but the south side of Hunga island has just that.  This amazing day excursion will visit Foeata and Fofoa islands and then return to our mooring at Hunga Haven for dinner aboard.

Day 7 – Vaka’Eitu
A half day’s sail to the island of Vaka ‘Eitu and you will anchor amid stunning clear water off the beach. Enjoy snorkeling, paddleboarding, or kayaking.  And for this final night, you can experience a celebratory dinner ashore at the famous Kava Bar, host to an amazing Tongan Beach Feast at the water’s edge.

Day 8 – Neiafu Harbor, Vava’u
A final breakfast aboard and the time has come to return to base at Neiafu.  But the memories you have made will last a lifetime.  It’s time to start planning the next trip!

The Sunsail 444 – 4 Cabin Catamaran Yacht

Located approximately 1,200 nautical miles south of the equator in Oceania, The Kingdom of Tonga is an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, directly south of Samoa and about two-thirds of the way from Hawaii to New Zealand.  It is located just barely on the other side of the International dateline making it the first land to see the sunrise.  Its 169 islands, 36 of them inhabited, are divided into three main groups – Vava’u (from where we will set sail), Ha’apai, and Tongatapu – and covers a 500-mile-long north-south line.  Geologically the Tongan islands are of two types: most have a limestone base formed from uplifted coral formations; others consist of limestone overlaying a volcanic base.

The climate of Tonga is tropical, with the best conditions between May and November.  Calm seas combined with south-easterly trade winds from May to September (winter south of the equator) and north-easterlies in the summer guarantee excellent sailing.  Winter temperatures range in the mid to high 70’s for daytime highs, to the mid 60’s for nighttime lows.  Summer sees temperatures in the mid 80’s.  The tidal range can be 3 to 6 feet in some locations but tidal and wind-driven currents are generally insignificant, except in narrow channels.  Navigation is line-of-sight. The tropical cyclone season currently runs from November to April, though tropical cyclones can form and affect Tonga outside of the season.

Valid passports are required to travel to the Kingdom of Tonga – your passport must be valid for 6 months past your departure date from Tonga.

Tourist visas are not required for US citizens if staying less than 30 days.

The T$ (Tongan Pa’anga) is the official currency in Tonga.
Foreign currencies are not readily accepted in Tonga.  Credit cards are only accepted in larger establishments.  There is no access to exchange money outside of Neiafu.

Tongan and English are the official languages of Tonga.

• Bookings can only be taken for full staterooms, not for individual berths.
• 50% deposit due upon booking. Staterooms cannot be held without a deposit.
• Deposits and voyage fare balances can can be paid online. Give us a call for more details.
• Specific stateroom will be assigned at a later time, based on availability.
• Once all staterooms have been booked, potential Guests that express interest will be added to a wait list.
• The final 50% balance is due no later than 120 days prior to the sail date. Due date: Coming soon! These trips are popular so please keep in mind that to retain your stateroom all balances must be paid on time.
• Travel Protection Insurance and Cancellation Coverage: The charter industry is experiencing rapid change regarding travel booking and safety protocols. Each Guest is recommended to carry a Travel Protection Insurance policy to cover costs related to unexpected schedule changes and/or cancellations. Travel Protection Insurance is not included in our voyage pricing. When you purchase a separate Travel Protection Insurance policy, consult the details of the policy related to Covid-19 and other covered circumstances. Be sure you understand how your policy reimburses costs due to cancellation of your trip for family or medical issues, a general concern over travel, country lockdown events, airline denial of boarding due to temperature checks, if you were to contract Covid-19 before or during your travels, or other Covid-19 related circumstances. Proof of an in force Travel Protection Insurance policy must be submitted prior to boarding.
• Peace of Mind Charter Postponement Policy Due to Covid-19: We want you to feel confident in your travel plans. To further provide you with peace of mind, we are offering the following terms for guests that have paid in full:
  • If our charter provider confirms they cannot operate the charter due to local government restrictions, or
  • If our charter Guests and Crew are unable to reach our destination due to confirmed border closures, or if the US Department of State issues a “Level 4 – Do Not Travel” advisory against all travel to our booked destination AND such measures or advice is confirmed to still be in place on our date of departure, then,
  • In either of the above two cases, we will postpone the departure date of the charter for another date within 12 months from our original departure date at no cost to you. Providing that your balance has been paid in full, your stateroom will be held for you and guaranteed for the rescheduled sail date. If the above two circumstances remain in place through the newly rescheduled date, a new travel date will again be determined at no cost to you.
